Dear Friends,

These days, young people might associate parades with professionally-run extravanganzas. The Kiwanis Annual Flag Day Parade this Saturday, June 14, might seem to them more like a small town scene out of an old movie.

But the small town in the midst of NYC is the point! A real highlight is our own Sunnyside Drum Corps, started by the late Joe Sabba, now expertly led by Tony Lana. The determination and discipline of local children doing their best is worth viewing.

Come watch the parade alone Greenpoint from 11:30 on, and/or attend the ceremonies at Joe Sabba Park at the completion. We know Buster Sabba (our Sunnyside Insider, see left), will be there, photographing participants and dignitaries. The parade is no Rose Bowl, but there is something very nice about small town traditions carried forward. We appreciate the efforts of the people working hard, year after year, on all of our behalf.

Thank you to everyone for visiting. Keep cool!
